US Senate votes Lesbian into Federal Court Bench

In a narrow vote of just 48 to 44, Senate voters decided after all of the drama surrounding her appointment, that Alison Nathan, an openly Lesbian judge, would fill the seat in the federal courthouse for the Southern District of New York.

Spokeman Shin Inouye for the Whitehouse said “”The President welcomes the confirmation of Alison Nathan. She will serve the American people well from the District Court bench.”

While no Republicans voted Yay, neither did five of the Democrats present.  In contrast, the last Federal Judge appointed won that seat with support from 28 of the Senate Republicans.

Her candidacy for the seat was created by President Obama who formerly employed her as White House associate counsel for his administration.

As doubters of her nomination being passed were voicing their concerns, Democratic senator Charles Schumer from New York said, “Are we gonna have a different standard for Ali Nathan than for other judges?”

More details on her appointment can be read: http://www.metroweekly.com/poliglot/2011/10/alison-nathan-confirmed-for-fe.html
