Southwest Airlines’ Apology to L-word Actress

Southwest Airlines Newsroom: Releases… says

Statement Regarding Southwest Customers Removed From Flight 2274

Mon, Sep 26, 2011

Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender. The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight. We regret any circumstance where a passenger does not have a positive experience on Southwest and we are ready to work directly with the passengers involved to offer our heartfelt apologies for falling short of their expectation.

Today, Actress & Musician Leisha Hailey less than 13 hours ago from press time, launched a campaign for LGBTs to Boycott Southwest Airlines.  She notes in her various twitter posts that she was asked by airline staff to not kiss her partner on the plane, that Southwest Airlines is a “Family” airline, and was eventually escorted off the plane to resolve her issue.  Read the tweet posts in reverse chronological order here ( I captured tweet timeline from her twitter page )

We hope to be able to post more as this story unfolds.

My take is probably different here than may over this. I think they should have been booted from the plane. Bad social behavior is bad social behavior regardless of whether your are gay or straight. This in my opinion wasn’t discrimination in any way, as if straight people were carrying on, making out and making an issue of themselves they would likely have gotten the same boot.
